| WHAT IS A NO-KILL SHELTER? |
|---|
|
Most of the local government run shelters only keep animals an average of 5 days before they are destroyed. Obviously, this doesn't give these animals much of a chance for adoption.
I assumed that these animals were humanely 'put to sleep'. Unfortunately, because of cost issues, many of these animals spend their final minutes in a 'gas chamber', just as was horribly done to people in World War II. Their last moments are spent in extreme fear and pain. No-kill shelters rescue these animals, giving them a home (and hope) until they can be adopted out to a loving family. For the animal, this is their second chance at life! These shelters (and the special people who run them) do not receive government funds - they are operated by volunteers and survive on donations. Please do whatever you can to help any shelter in your area. |
